Mandate

After elevation of the college as a Faculty in 1972 scopes of its activities have considerably expanded with the following mandate:

  • Organize and conduct educational programmes both at undergraduate and post-graduate levels in various branches of Dairy Science and Technology in order to meet the manpower needs of technologists for managing dairy plants and subject matter specialists for research and teaching needs of the country
  • Organize short term specialized training programmes /refresher courses, etc. (both formal and informal) for dairy plant personnel, university teachers, research workers, small entrepreneurs, farmers and others in field of Dairy Processing
  • Carry out research in Dairy Technology, Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Chemistry and Dairy Engineering including design and development of dairy equipment
  • Rendering service to dairy industry through its Consultancy Cell, comprising of a team of multi-disciplinary specialists

To meet the objectives enshrined in the mandate, the activities of the college are organised through its five major departments, i.e. Dairy Technology, Dairy Engineering, Dairy Microbiology, Dairy Chemistry and Dairy Business Management. To keep pace with the challenges in dairy processing, intensive structural changes have been introduced from time to time in the course curricula and research agenda. The current faculty strength comprises of 61 teachers, 54 technical staff, 25 administrative and supporting staff and 58 dairy workers and Class IV employees making a total of 199.

A strong well trained faculty and Vidya Dairy – a 1,00,000 litre/day commercial dairy plant of the college for professional training of B.Tech. (D.T.) students, coupled with proximity of the college to National Dairy Development BoardNational Co-operative Dairy Federation of IndiaInstitute of Rural Management AnandGujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd., Anand and the Kaira District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd (i.e. AMUL Dairy) make the college ideal centre for dairy technology education
